Laboratory Vane Apparatus
The VJ Tech Laboratory Vane Apparatus, inspired by the original TRL design and adhering to BS1377 standards, is an essential tool for measuring the shear strength of soft soil in both undisturbed and remoulded samples.
The Laboratory Vane Apparatus employs torsional force via one of four precision-calibrated springs acting on a laboratory vane. It features a hand-operated frame with a 200mm diameter base plate, compatible with standard specimen molds and sample tubes. Load application and vane deflection are easily monitored through its scales.
To enhance testing efficiency, it offers three motorising attachments, which can either be pre-fitted upon purchase or added later at the customer’s location.

By default, one 12.7mm x 12.7mm vane is included with the main apparatus. Other sizes are available: 25.4 mm x 25.4 mm; 12.7mm x 25.4mm; 12.7mm x 19.0mm.
Attachment to hold Sample Tubes and Glass Jars
The Handheld Vane Shear is used on-site, for a quick and easy initial analysis of the soil or clay shear strength in an area of geotechnical interest
Motorised attachment can be easily fitted to the basic Lab Vane (BS and/or ASTM)
