In an effort to reduce the CO₂ emissions and cover its energy needs, UK has turned to renewable sources of energy and more specifically to offshore wind power harvesting. Offshore Wind Farming is considered to be one of the most reliable ways to produce energy, because: a) the average wind speed over sea is generally higher and more consistent than onshore, making the offshore wind farming more efficient b) the noise and vibrations from the wind turbines do not have any impacts on the environment or human activities due to their distance from land (more than 10km), their size can be twice the size of the onshore turbines and c) wave and current loading can be harvested as well. Also the wind turbine technology is relatively more matured those other forms of renewables.
