The VJ Tech Ring Shear Testing System produces accurate and repeatable test results to determine the residual shear strength of cohesive soils, which is particularly important when assessing slope stability. The RingSHEAR is a torsional Bromhead style shear device featuring a digital display and control panel and can be computer controlled by Clisp Studio with connection via USB, using a USB to RS232 converter from either the Ring shear Instrument (when using Load Cells) or a Junction Box connected to the Ring shear (which is required when using Load Rings). The rotational shearing action is applied continuously until a constant residual strength value is achieved.
The advantages of a ring shear machine are that there is no change in the area of the cross section of the shear plane as the test proceeds and the sample can be sheared through an uninterrupted displacement of any magnitude. The user friendly Clisp Studio software conforms to BS1377-7ASTM D6467-13.

A Ringshear Interface Top Cap Assembly is available which includes an annular stainless steel interface disc with an average roughness of Ra 6.3-12.5 for soil-steel interface testing (requires dedicated csHostAdv program).
